Sandpit adventures

barley has had fun the last couple of days digging in his sandpit, he finds it cooler to lay in the heat. he is a spoilt mut as day is now making a rain cover for so he can use it in all weathers. he is still trying to complete his mission to dig to china but is not getting very far, he is not digging down wards anymore but more moving in a line and creating a ditch. yesterday we worked on his back paw co-ordination again using tuhe agility 2 on 2 off method of getting to reverse backwards onto an object so his back feet are on it and his front feet are on the floor, we are also working on his balance as he has poor balance and co-ordination especially with his back legs, he still has funny moments with his back legs which are a bit concerning as they seem to be coming more frequent, we have made the descion if his legs start getting any worse he is going to the vets as they seem to be detiating, he is giving me funny looks when i touch them and does not like me lifting them, i have noticed that his fur changes on his back legs to rough harsh hair not light fluffy fur.

Yesterday

Yesterday, barely went to agility, well all i can say is that it was a scucess, this is the first timebarley has been to agility for just over 2 months now due to various factors and he done really well, he wanted to work and enjoyed himself and actually ran round the course, everyone at agility thought he was a diffrent dog cause he ran and was happy. we have settled on using wet food chunks as his reward, this is his evening meal so no extra stuff. he is still scared of the see-saw but at least he did not fall of this time as he has done in the past, he was on medium jumps and done 1 round on high jumps. i am very pleased with him, as well he was so well behaved and did not try to go for other dogs, he is working on his food possesivness you have to check with him first that you have no food before saying hello to another dog, but in doing that he still gives me evil glances. Also he was off lead this time as he is usually on lead, so he is coming on in leaps and bounds.

Barley's trip to the park

today barley walk was focused on training, we are working on his recall, we have found that treats do not work toys do not work but food does, not normal plain kibble, but lovely yummy wet food, we have found that wet food pouches are  a high enough incentive of a reward for him to come back. we done some plain recalls then some hide and seeks where he had to use his nose to find us, he is now all puffed out asleep.

This was a recent photo of him before he was set of for his run, he is looking very alert and cant wait to find daddy and get his treat, for his runs he just gets plain treats but he still loves to run for them, we are working on weaning dad out of our runs so he can run independantly without a person to run to.

Best of friends

This is barleys latest trick, best buddies, this is also working towards some moves for HTM freestyle routine.

Dog show

we were at a dog show today, it was at easton farm park and had pedigree and novelty classes, barley was entered in 4 classes; most handsome dog, best rescue, best crossbreed and best big dog. he came 1st in most handsome male, 6th in best crossbreed and 6th in best rescue. Ross was entered in 6 classes; any variety non-sporting, any variety open, waggiest tail, best condition, junior handler and best little dog, he got 2nd junior handler, 3rd best little dog and 4th any variety non-sporting, both dogs are shatterd and barley is busy snoring by my feet. we had lots of fun and came away with 6 rossetts.

well is is definitly looking like a vet trip for barley, ross has no agility tonight as the car is broken, unless i can scramble a lift but it is very unlikely, will have to do some work in the garden instead, he is improving on his weaves and he can now do them without any prompts from me, so he is learning, found a mix of tidbits and ball worked best for him as he got bored opf ball after a while and tidbits were not enough of a temptation. hoping that he will be good enough to at least get placed at the newark activity weekend as well as in obedience and grooming with barley, am curently looking at grooming tables for barley but the portable tables that are big enough for barley are very expensive, will post some pictures this evening

This weekend

well barley is not the happiest dog at the moment, will have to be a trip to the vets for his cut paw, but he ho things happen.

we were at a dog show on sunday and he was really good, he got a 3rd for best rescue and got a bag full of goodies we entered three classes in total, we also won a dog goody hamper worth over £60 so all in all it was a very good but long day

Today was his first day on kibble after his raw trail, food went down well.

Barley had his booster jab today and is now wacked out aslepp on his bed.

This is also his second day of raw feeding, he had 2 bones this morning which went down a treat and he had a meal of 1 egg and shell, brocoli and carrot, rabbit, liver salmon oil and evening primrose oil, this went down nicely.
